Track Review: Whitefall – The Drift

From Canberra, Australia, Whitefall delivers a very sophisticated yet raw dose of metalcore. Having previously released their Origins EP last year, their single, “The Drift” was released on the 8th of December.

Vocally, there is such an incredibly raspy ACK-A-GACK combo flow that makes it impossible for listeners to tune out or experience any disconnection so long as the vocalist has them hypnotised in place – I swear, he should start calling himself Medusa. Jokes aside, I can see Emmure and possibly even Attila fans getting poached in favour of what is a very entertaining and original Whitefall.

Instrumentally, the guitars are as addictive as the vocals with their combination of breakdowns and ghost-notes that add an unpredictable and funky vibe to the works. Of course however, the mellow segments are what keep the song unique and intriguing, but the strumming rhythm around the three minute mark are the highlight and climax points of the song.

I am pleased to hear a band with such a fresh and new sound. I know PSAB and Whitefall have crossed paths before, but for me personally, this was a first. Well done, guys.
