Kevin caught up with death metal band Summon The Destroyer in Indianapolis, IN.

Some background on the band: Summon the Desroyer was formed in Indianapolis inn 2006 by Ryan Green(Amongst the Swarm, Year of Desolation) and vocalist Nate Bracey(Kata Sarka, Casque) in order to create challenging and brutal, technically inclined death metal. Recruiting long time friends, bassist Corey Clark(Christ Beheaded, Burn the Army) and guitarist Mike Morgan(Demiricous, Christ Beheaded), the group played several shows before recording their first full length “In Reverence to Sin” in early 2008. After sharing the stage with many excellent bands and re-tooling their sound into a faster, more dangerous machine, Summon the Destroyer began working on songs for their next release. The group invited drummer Don Curtis(Bulletwolf) and vocalist Brandon Howe(Primordium, Venality) to join, thus fully solidifying their line-up. Heavily influence by the early and mid-90s brutality of bands like Suffocation, Gorguts, and Morbid Angel, as well as the technical and progressive nature of classic acts like Death and Dismemberment, the band displays an unmatched determination to destroy.

Kevin: So how did you guys come up with the name Summon the Destroyer?

STD: We had a long list of potential names and one of the guys had put that one down. Originally I fucking hated it but after a long discussion, we thought “Summon the Destroyer” best suited what the band was setting out to do: create devastating music.

Kevin: Well you guys have absolutely succeeded in doing that.

STD: We’ve been trying.

Kevin: Whats the craziest thing you have seen at one of your shows?

STD: I don’t think we’ve really had anything out of the ordinary happen at our shows. Often times people are just trying to take in everything that we are dishing out.

Kevin: Which can be very difficult for people who don’t know you guys or what to expect.

STD: Im sure it can be but the response has been good over the years.

Kevin: What are some of the most influential bands in your sound?

STD: It’s hard to say. We dont really listen to what other bands are doing and try to incorporate it into what we do. We’ve all had different influences over the years from classical to technical death metal and just try to put together what sounds good to us at the time. It’s a very interesting writing process to say the least.

Kevin: So I guess this kind of answers my next question of what sets you guys apart form the others?

STD: We just stick with doing our own thing. Its kind of nice to have your own voice in a sea of people shouting. If you know what I mean.

Kevin: Future plans for Summon the Destroyer?

STD: We are putting the finishing touches on our new album “Expulsion of God” and are hoping to release it in the spring or early summer. Then we will be busting our asses on the road. Hopefully trying to hit Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and of course our home…Indianapolis.

Kevin: Final question. What would you like to say to the people that might not have heard of you guys before?

STD: Get ready for your ears to bleed.
