Interview with Who Stole The Cookie From The Cookie Jar!

Facebook – Genre(s): Nintendocore/8-Bit – Location: Riverside, CA.

PSAB: Why did you choose “Who Stole The Cookie From The Cookie Jar” for your band name?

WSTCFTCJ: It’s a pretty lame story actually haha. Back in 2011, our vocalist Sammy and I (David) were part of a metalcore band that didn’t have a name, he kept insisting on calling it “Who Stole The Cookie From The Cookie Jar” but we kept telling him it was a stupid name. I had the idea one day after practice to start making some Nintendocore songs with just my Game Boy. I asked Sammy if he would be down for a fun little side project, to which he said only if we can use the WSTCFTCJ name. It’s since become our main project with added band members, an EP, and a lot of new and exciting things in the future!

PSAB: You haven’t released an album/EP since January. How has the feedback been for your latest EP, and when can we expect new music?

WSTCFTCJ: It’s been fantastic! We sold out of cassettes after only a couple weeks, and we’re hoping for more CD sales so we can finally get some shirts going! We currently have two EPs in the works right now. First one is nearly finished, and uses a Nintendo DS for the instrumentals. It’ll have plenty of evil strings/pianos along with slamming breakdowns. We’re planning to release this EP as a split with our homie Shotgun Guy in the next 1-2 months.

Our other EP will be a concept EP based on the first DOOM’s story. It’s going to have a symphonic black metal sound (we have about 15 orchestral musicians on board!) along with Game Boys/synths and guitar/bass/drums. It’s a *very* ambitious project for us, and we’re hoping the final product will be as awesome as it sounds written down. We’re not sure when it’ll be finished, but hopefully sometime this year.

PSAB: You’re an 8-bit/nintendocore band. Which video games have you sampled, and which ones do you want to do in the future?

WSTCFTCJ: We actually don’t sample! We use actual hardware and originally written stuff for our instrumentals. I use LSDJ on a Game Boy Color and Korg M01 on a Nintendo DS lite for our sounds.

PSAB: How’s the metal scene in Riverside, CA?

WSTCFTCJ: We normally play at chiptune shows around LA, but we’re looking to start playing with metal bands in the local scene. It seems most bands in our area are beatdown bands, so we’re looking to spice up the area with something new!

PSAB: Besides the obvious, what plays the most influence on your music?

WSTCFTCJ: That’s a really tough question since we all draw inspiration from different stuff. Artists like Monomate/iamerror, HORSE The Band, We Butter The Bread With Butter, Suicide Silence, and Abigail Williams are some that influence us as a whole.

PSAB: Do you have any shout outs to give to the readers out there?

WSTCFTCJ: yooooo huge shout out to peet, Shotgun Guy, Paisa Thrash, Kool Skull, and all the other homies that like our stuff! <3
