Interview with When Fall Breaks!

Band: When Fall Breaks
Genre: Metalcore / Deathcore
Q: Where does the band name “When Fall Breaks” come from?

When Fall Breaks doesn’t really have any significant meaning, it was just a name that our singer Cole had come up with. For us the name wasn’t really a huge deal, we thought it was memorable and sounded cool and that’s all we care about 🙂

Q: Your debut EP, The Key To Serenity, released in 2012. How was the feedback?

So far the EP has gotten awesome feedback! We are very pleased, copies are selling at every show we play! We also recently got it on iTunes and we have already sold quite a few copies online! The album was produced by Jon Howard (Threat Signal) and Steve Haines (Ex. It Lies in Ruin) They are honestly some of the best metal producers that Canada has to offer and it was a pleasure working with them!

Right now for us all we care about is the exposure, we aren’t greedy or looking for money, so we have the album streaming for free on YouTube and available for free download on other sites as well! So overall based on YouTube views, downloads, hard copies sold and digital copies sold, we are extremely happy with it and we have heard nothing but good things from the local scene!

Q: How is the local metal scene in Burlington, Ontario?

The scene is unbelievable here! For a long time it completely died out, it just seemed like hardcore music was a thing of the past, mainstream shit started becoming popular and the amount of all ages shows were decreasing, so a lot of metal band fans couldn’t even go out to see their favorite bands play! But as of the last few years the scene here is exploding, particularly in Hamilton, and Burlington!

Bands like Shattered Remains, Prophets, Skynet, Threat Signal, Abide, A Sin For A Prayer, I could go on for days about all the bands exploding out of this area! Shows have become fun again! Even though the all ages shows are still a little on the shy side, the scene has still in my opinion risen from the grave!

Q: What are your plans for 2013 so far?

As of now we have a few shows coming up in our hometown this month. Next month we will be playing shows in both Toronto and the Niagara region. In the summer we plan on possibly recording a few songs with Jon Howard, playing some local shows, and going on a Southern Ontario tour with our friends in Shattered Remains and A Sin For A Prayer.

Q: You’re not signed to any record label currently, which label would you like to be signed to if you had the chance?

We have had a few offers by smaller independent labels but they were not what we were looking for. Ideally we would love to be signed to a label like Artery, Sumerian, We Are Triumphant or Rise. Somewhere our music would completely fit in with the other bands but at the same time we would be able to bring something new to the table.

Q: If you could play a show with one band, broken up or not, which band would that be?

Me, personally would have to say Blind Witness. But if us as a band had to agree on one band, it would probably be August Burns Red.

Q: Do you have any shout outs to give?
