Interview with Montezuma!

Band: Montezuma
Genre: Deathcore
Q: Why did you choose the name “Montezuma” for your band?

We actually chose the name “Montezuma” after watching the 2006 epic film “Apocalypto”. Even though the movie is about the Mayans and Montezuma was an Aztec king, we just thought it was a pretty cool name and it was the best one we could come up with at the time.

Q: Your most recent EP II came out in February 2012, when can we expect a new EP or album?

Expect a full-length album in 2013. Our vocalist just recently decided to part ways with us so we’ve been on the lookout for some new vocalists. That’s kinda been slowing us down a little bit. We’re very cautious with our decisions so we want to take the time to find the right vocalist. Other than that, we have a ton of new music that’s ready to be recorded!

Q: You’ve put both your EPs up for free to download, why did you choose not to charge for you music?

We tried to charge people when we first put out “I”, our first demo. However, after we recorded “II” we realized it is a lot easier to either put up our music for free download or hand out physical copies for free. There are tons of bands just like us who are trying to make it big.

We would just be making it harder to promote ourselves if we tried to charge people for our music. As we are all aware that musicians suffer due to illegal downloads, we can conclude that more people will accept our music if it’s free.

Q: What record label would you like to be signed to the most?

Hmmm… I think it’s a tie between Metal Blade and Nuclear Blast. Loads of amazing bands on both those labels.

Q: Which band has influenced your music the most?

Gojira. We’ve been huge fans of Gojira for a long time. They are incredibly powerful in every way. Definitely in our top 5 favorite bands. Other influential/important/mentionable bands for us would include Cynic, Death, Suffocation, Mastodon, and Pantera.

Q: What are your plans for 2013?

In 2013, we plan to record our very first full length album. It will most likely be released in the summer. Also, we plan on getting back on the stage and playing some shows (we’ve been taking a break from that for 4 months now). Expect a lot more from us in 2013. We’re gonna hit you hard.

Q: Any shout outs to give?

We gotta give a shout out to all the cool dudes in The Zenith Passage, Incryption, Chemi-Kill, Mouth of the Serpent, Polarization, Sea of Skies, and Covenants. Also we want to thank all of the amazing people who have supported us throughout these past few years. We are extremely grateful for everything. Thanks!
