Interview with Deceptionist!

Band: Deceptionist
Genre: Death Metal
Q: What was your reasons on choosing the band name “Deceptionist?”

The origin of how we came up with the name “Deceptionist” is rather… Unorthodox. I was parked in front of an AAA center parking lot and I noticed on the receptionist’s counter, it said “receptionist”. The funny part about that was, I read it as “Deceptionist” instead. Then it was like a light bulb just lit up over my head. I automatically thought “Whoa, I think Deceptionist would be a cool band name”. Shortly after my unusual observation, I contacted my band mates and needless to say, they approved of it!

Q: What’s the underground metal scene like in St. Louis, MO?

It has its ups and downs, I think not enough people participate in truly “supporting” the music scene in Saint Louis. The people who do support it though definitely outweigh the cons. Saint Louis would have a better underground metal scene if everyone came together, instead of being broken off into sections of sub genre groups, thus making it harder for anyone’s music to expand to its full potential.

Q: Your recent single, Disjointed, came out recently. How was the feedback from the fans?

Disjointed is without a doubt the most successful single we have released. The feedback we have been getting from it has been nothing short of fantastic. The growth of inspiration and motivation within ourselves gets stronger by the day from all the support we have been receiving, and we assure the fans that they can expect nothing but improvement from us.

Q: Which band has been the biggest influence on your music?

Everyone in Deceptionist has a different background as far as influences, it varies from bands such as Explosions in the Sky, and bands such as The Faceless and As Blood Runs Black.

Q: Deceptionist hasn’t been around for a year yet, why did you guys start this late? Why not earlier?

Before Deceptionist’s original lineup, all of the members were fresh out of their previous bands and wanting to begin a new musical endeavor. I guess you can say everything just feel into place at the time being.

Q: What are your plans for the next six months?

One of our main goals is to finish our EP in the next six months, as well as being a liable band to play shows, and being a band with a hefty merch selection. Being as we are still a band that is developing, touring is definitely in the world of things to come, but other things must fall into place first.

Q: Any shout outs to give?

First off, I want to give a shout out to Pig Squeals and Breakdowns, it was a pleasure doing this interview with you! I also want to give a shout out to Ryan Powell for helping us out a bunch with promoting us and uploading our music. You’re the man! Also, big shout outs go to Kevin Kwiatkowsi, my parents, Jordan Sanders for being the best producer anyone could ask for, Griffin Piazza for being Based God chef of the century, and all our friends that support us. Thank you all SO much for everything!
