Interview with Absentia!

Facebook – Genre(s): Metalcore – Location: Dhaka

PSAB: Where does the name “Absentia” come from exactly?

Absentia: We honestly really liked the name Absentia from Porcupine Tree’s album because we wanted a single word name and we interpret it as the feelings we experience in the absence of senses.

PSAB: When can we expect new music from you?

Absentia: We have only recently released our debut EP called “Exit.Paradigm”. We’ve experimented and ventured in various forms of core music in the EP. Now we’re trying to refine our sound even further and make a full length album and we do not want to rush the first album. It might take from anywhere between 1 to 2 years. Of course, we’ll be releasing 2 or 3 singles during this time.

PSAB: If you had the choice to have a musician featured on one of your tracks. Which musician would that be and why?

Absentia: Misha Mansoor guest solo-ing on one of our songs would be cool, simply because it’s Misha.

PSAB: What is the metal scene like in Dhaka?

Absentia: Metal is huge in Dhaka. We’ve got plenty of quality thrash, black and death metal acts who are huge here and are gaining popularity abroad quickly too. The core scene is small but it’s growing quickly and djent is suddenly very popular here.

PSAB: What are the top bands that play an influence on your music?

Absentia: Bring Me The Horizon, Parkway Drive and As I Lay Dying have influenced us greatly in our early times and even now. Sound wise I’d say we sound closer to As I Lay Dying than the other two though.

PSAB: Have any shout outs?

Absentia: A shoutout to Powersurge, Mechanix, Trainwreck and Roman Sacrifice from Dhaka and to Chronic Xorn from Kolkata, India who recently toured Dhaka and blew our minds away.
