Review: Dethrone the Corrupted – Self Titled EP

Dethrone the Corrupted is a melodic death metal band from Slovenia, Slovenska Bitrica. They formed on September 1st, 2012 and have had two major releases: in 2012 they released an EP that contained two songs: Pyschological Warfare and Open Your Mind. Then in 2014, they released a self-titled EP. The current lineup is: Aleksander “Ali” Berglez (vocals), Beno Meglič (guitar), Rok Lorger (guitar), Janez Sluga (bass guitar), and Žiga Meglič (drums).

I am very pleased with the material that this band created. Of the different types of instruments that are incorporated into this EP, I think that the drums are my favorite. Berglez does a great job delivering skull-crushing vocals throughout the duration of the EP. The lyrics are mainly about of issues regarding religion, self-empowerment, and greed. I enjoyed listening to the guitars on this EP because they have that deathcore aspect of being heavy and they can be fast at times too, which helps keeps up with the flow of the EP. I have a lot of respect for Meglič. He is a terrific drummer. Through his complex drumming, he adds a great layer to the EP.

I would recommend this album to anyone who likes metal. For this band being relatively young and not having a lot of material released, they did a great job with this EP. I think that they have a lot of potential. One complaint of this album that I would make is that I wish there would be more guitar solos. I would give this EP four out of five stars. I am looking forward to what this band is capable of doing in the future.
